Role Models. Mentors help in many ways.
As women, we get ideas for raising our children, and recipes (check out the one below), and also spiritual mentor training from those we admire. Role models. The Christian Brotherhood Fellowship (CBF) in Omaha was a para-church organization that manifested the depth of the truth of the Christian walk of fellowship. Along with the Fort Street Christian Church (FSCC), they gave me great recipes (see the one below), but more importantly, they were responsible for stretching me to grow deeply in the faith. They showed me how to STUDY the Word. They made me hungry for more!

Best of all…they SHOWED me JESUS
I learned to read Christian Biographies like those about Jim Elliot, D. L. Moody, Hudson Taylor, George Mueller, Eric Liddell, and Catherine Boothe. Those biographies were and still are my “fellowship” …my “mentors” late into the night when no one else is around to encourage me in my faith walk.

I learned to memorize Scripture
using the Navigator’s Topical Memory System (TMS). I learned what it looked like to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus. They SHOWED me. They taught me. They encouraged me to never settle for mediocrity.

They taught me to be like the Bereans in Scripture.
To test the spirits…whether they are from God. To test what I’m taught against the Word of God. To ask for wisdom and believe it is given. To be mentored and to mentor. To look for ways to bless others. To pray. About EVERYTHING. To trust that God has a bigger plan than our puny minds can imagine. To TRUST HIM no matter what! I am forever grateful!

AND…I learned about fellowship around a good meal.

Here’s a recipe shared from one of my mentor friends. It is yummy!!!

Wake-Up Cake

(350 degrees, 20-25 min.)
(13 x 9 “ baking pan)

Wake Up Cake
¾ c. chunk style peanut butter
½ c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 c. butter
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
¾ c. mashed ripe banana
1 ¼ c. UN-cooked old-fashioned oats
¼ c. wheat germ
½ t. baking soda

Beat together peanut butter, brown sugar, and butter in large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Stir in banana. Add combined remaining ingredients, mixing well until blended. Spread into greased baking pan. Bake until wooden toothpick comes out clean (when inserted into the center of cake). COOL. Cut into squares.

You can freeze left-overs for when you need a quick breakfast!

Serve with fruit cup.

Share this with your friends. They will thank you.
