The Blame Game

It is NOT my fault! He…She…

We learn the blame game quickly.
It seems to come so naturally, that it must be in our genes – inherited from Adam and Eve.

Our society’s default is blame the Mom
For years, subconsciously I tried blaming my mother for dying when I was so young. My lack of being mothered definitely influenced much of my responses to life, but I had a great father that raised me; and yet, when the circumstances of my life “went south” as they say, I didn’t want to take responsibility for my choices. The fact is, I didn’t consciously make choices as much as I just let life happen to me.

But I am not  a kid now
That blaming just doesn’t work anymore. (Actually, it never worked. But it takes a bit of maturity to realize that.) I know kids AND adults who blame their parents, or their upbringing, or their improper “potty training” for their bad attitudes or lack of initiative.

Blame even shows up on the Mission Field
You might think that is one place you would be immune to blame influencing your day-to-day walk. And yet, there it is! The surprises. The inconsistencies. The rising up of problems that seem so large in that foreign setting. It can’t be YOU. It has to be someone else to blame. After all, you were trained and prepped and prepared. But sometimes, that is exactly where it rears its ugly head! And it can break a person without the understanding that it is normal. A person without a “backup” plan is on perilous ground.

What about you?
Are you using the blame game to prevent you from reaching your full potential? Maybe today is the day to stop playing the immobilizing blame game and to begin moving forward toward growth and joy. God the Father, who loves the word “impossible” is on your team waiting for you to believe Him when He says that He created you with a purpose in mind. And that “purpose” does not include blaming others.

You can choose to be courageous
It truly is a choice, like much in life. What if instead of blaming, you decided to be brave one day at a time? What if you decided you will reach out and choose to move forward in spite of your fears. In spite of the voices from your past that might be holding you back. Maybe this is the day to reach out toward something better…toward the Lord and His work. He loves leading you toward His purpose for your life! Just ask Him!

Everyone needs a cheerleader
I believe that’s God’s plan. To have someone walk alongside. Encouraging you. Did you know that is one of the things that a Mentor Coach does? I can help you discover and embrace your God-given strengths. To find your purpose. Your fulfillment. Your joy as you walk through your life experiences. Sound good?

The Blame Game — 4 Comments

  1. Hi Pam: Love this line — “I didn’t consciously make choices as much as I just let life happen to me.” That is exactly my story. It’s a wonder we both survived! Here’s to giving up the Blame Game.

I love that: Here’s to giving up the blame game! YES!!! Amen to that! I’d love to hear more of your story…

  2. Well, well, well! The blame game. I myself have moved through many phases of it, none of which has done much good. And although I have said things about blaming my parents, the person I blame the most is me. I blame myself for not working hard enough, not being wise enough, not being good enough, no being aware enough, and so forth and so forth and so forth.

Yeah…Figuring out that blaming others is not helpful is an amazing blessing. That’s when healing and growth and forward motion begins to happen. We can never ever earn his acceptance. It is free and freely given. And what a blessing to know that the Lord ADORES us just the way we are. And loves us too much to let us stay that way! 😉 Praising Him for that! God bless you bunches!
