Many spend much of their lives looking for someone to rescue them. To take care of them. A Super Hero. No human being can meet that need without failing often. So, it can be easy to begin to think that is God’s job. To be our Super Hero. So, what IS God’s “job”?

Expectations are a bummer!
It’s like we subconsciously search for a Super Hero to come to make everything OK in our lives.. And it is hoped to be without any effort on our part. And of course, this Super Hero will make our lives effortless. After all, the “world” OWES it to us. It might even be called: THE GOOD LIFE. But, just what IS a “good life”, anyway? Is it what the world describes as “good”, or does God have something better in mind when He creates?

Our plans focus on ourselves
However, “God’s plans include His Son, His church, heaven, and earth, and even us! His plan is better by far!” – Tom Hoffman

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:9

I was brought me up short when I read:
“Sometimes we think of the Lord as being a lot like a human, only with super powers.” — www.anchordevotional.org (June, 2019)

Immediately, I got a vision of Superman, come to save the day. Mild mannered Clark Kent transforms in a phone booth, from a normal, kinda wimpy man, into a Super Power. We love those kind of stories. However, if we think of Jesus that way, our conception of Him is that He’s basically like us.

Is that wrong? After all, He DID come to earth as a baby and grow up to be a man made of flesh and blood. But…

The Lord is entirely different from us
We can’t compare our strength, abilities, wisdom, knowledge, spiritual gifts or talents to Him. He is altogether everything and all those things in ONE. You are nothing without Him making it possible. He is the orchestra leader. We are ONE instrument IN the orchestra. He is not like us at all. He is OTHER!

We get discontent & impatient
Sometimes, I wait for His plan to unfold, thinking I might even have a better plan! Sometimes I ask God for wisdom and then go off and do what I intended to do all along. Isn’t that actually thinking I had the better plan? YIKES! It seldom turns out well. He gets my attention one way or another. You and I make plans, but He CAUSES it to happen. (Or NOT! )

Pondering
On your next drive home from somewhere, make it a point to be carefully observant. Every tree is growing by God’s design. Every hummingbird you see flitting around a feeder, is there by God’s design. Every hawk, or owl you see fly by; every rabbit, or squirrel you see skitter across the grass; are all there by God’s design. As are YOU, too. You are where He plunked you down. AND, He cares for and is deeply involved with His creation. ALL of His creation. That includes you and me!

Don’t EVER think you are unimportant
In His word, God informs us that He even knows the number of hairs on your head. Now that is some serious noticing. He even stores your tears in a bottle. You have your own personal DNA. Your own special blood type. Jesus has gone back to Heaven to be with God, and He is preparing a special place for you. And He will come again to gather you up and take you to your TRUE HOME. He promises. IF you are HIS. IF you have asked Him to be the Lord of your life. If that is true, you have an amazing future to look forward to. You matter!

I am His and He is mine
He is intimately involved with every aspect of your life. No matter what! “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry, ‘Mine!'” – Abraham Kuyper, 1880

We are an instrument for good or for evil
We were plopped down in this world exactly where He wanted us to be. It doesn’t seem fair for those that have less. And it doesn’t seem fair for those that have more. Nor for those who are sick or well. And not for those born in warm climates or those born in changing climates. For those with white skin, or those with black, brown, yellow, or red skin. God chooses all that. All for His purposes. For His plan. Ultimately, for HIS GLORY! Our God is super! And, He is our hero, rescuing us from the domain of darkness into His glorious Light. BUT, He is NOT a “Superhero”! He is much more than that…

Superheroes are only for FUN. They are great…
but there is One greater than any Super Hero. One with a greater plan than anything we can dream up. He is MORE. His plan is much better than anything we can think or imagine.

Why is that?
