Rear view mirrors are great if we are driving a car. We need more than the rearview mirror, though. Because we have to keep track of what is behind as well as what is in front of us in order to be a good driver.
So much of my life, I didn’t live in conscious awareness of what was in front of me as much as I lived life by looking regretfully through the rear view mirror…focusing on what went WRONG. Forever wishing things had been different. Focusing on what I could have done better. The past ruled my life. I was not a “good driver”. I was out of balance. My rear view mirror needed adjusting.
We can learn from the past. And SHOULD learn from the past, but after learning, and applying what we learn, it is time to move forward. To look at the present day as a gift. To see and believe the present circumstance as being orchestrated by God for my good.
It has been a gradual shift. But now I purpose daily to live for today! To choose joy. To choose to smile more than frown. To choose to count my blessings. To express gratitude.
And daily it becomes more and more natural. And each TODAY is new and fresh and ready to be experienced fully.
How about you? Does YOUR rearview mirror need adjusting like mine?
