She Is Somebody’s Mother

Chivalry is NOT dead. I know that for certain!
Seriously, I just witnessed chivalry in action.

Let me back up just a bit…Yesterday was a beautiful day. Palm Sunday. I wore just a light jacket to church. Overnight we had rain, snow and ice. The streets and sidewalks are VERY icy right now.

I live across the street from the bank. I was just standing a bit and looking out the window as I waited for an early morning client call.

somebodys-motherAn elderly lady was bent over and all bundled up against the cold. Warm winter scarf. Warm winter jacket. Old fashioned boots you pull-on-over-your-shoes kinda boots. She was walking with the assistance of a cane…very slowly and carefully doing the winter shuffle across the slippery street. She had a plastic bag on one arm and a purse dangling from the other.

A middle-aged man had parked in the bank parking lot across the street. He had a large manila envelop in his hand. He was obviously in a hurry to get into the bank. He was near the door of his destination. Then, I saw him look across the street. He saw the fragile little lady walking carefully so as not to fall. He changed directions. And walked toward the woman. He held out his hand to stop the traffic (is that cool or what??) while he used his other hand to hold her bent elbow as they slowly walked across the street and into the bank together. The man put his own busyness aside and reached out to bless another.

On this cold winter vs spring day, I saw chivalry in action! My heart is warmed. She is somebody’s mother. And he is somebody’s son. They both met in a moment in time and the world became a better place because of it!

And, I’m praising God that He prompted me to get up out of my chair and walk to the window to see AMAZING GRACE in action.

Are you having a “Go and do likewise!” moment from God right now? Or have you just come from blessing another just because you COULD?
