At Home
Ahhhh…yes. The question of the century. It has dogged at my heels throughout my life: “How can I be less in the flesh when out in the world?” I feel your pain!
Without a doubt…It is tougher to be out and about than in your own home, where you can make your own rules and follow your own plan and input. But home has its challenges, too.
At Church
It should be easier to be “holy” in your church than out in the world with all the temptations. But even church can have its pull toward comparisons and pretense!
So what is a girl to do? “I am bombarded everywhere!”
Social Media can be a real killer with all the pull of comparisons and unholy discontent thoughts!
Pray for wisdom and guidance. Pray God shows you where you are discontent or tempted. Then…
The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges
One of the first books I read as a new Christian. Published by Nav Press, this book is jam-packed full of wisdom. But here’s a little something from his book (page 60) that I think might help with your question this week:
The author reminds us that we must first be set free from the reign and rule of sin. The kingdom of unrighteous. And there is only one way!
“Our deliverance is through our union with Christ in His death.” …”Therefore, we are to guard our bodies so that sin does not reign in us.”
God has made provision.
”So we see that God has made provision for our holiness. Through Christ He has delivered us from sin’s reign so that we now can resist sin. But the responsibility for resisting is ours. God does not do that for us.
“To confuse the potential for resisting (which God provided) with the responsibility for resisting (which is ours) is to court disaster in our pursuit of holiness.”
It is a process, dear Mama.
Little by little. Sometimes victory. Sometimes defeat. But just keep keepin’ on so you can FINISH the RACE well! I’m rootin’ for you! You can do this!
Don’t try to do this alone.
