Crushed But Not Forsaken

“Noah was a brave man who set sail in a wooden boat that included at least two termites as passengers.” (Hallmark book: A Laugh A Day – A Daily Dose of Heavenly Humor*)

In my conversations with women, I find that many are feeling crushed in their spirit. Maybe feeling shame that eats away at the soul. Feeling like they OUGHT to be able to rise above the circumstances. But too weary to try. And so they are discouraged. Feeling unlovable.

Do you know someone like that? It can be like termites eating away at all that is good. Maybe sometimes you yourself feel a bit like Noah on that boat with termites. Life is difficult on a good day. How is one to stay afloat on their boat when all kinds of craziness swirls around like a flood that is ready to drown you?

It it a pipe dream?
What would it take to get out of that funk? Is it possible? Don’t give up! You can truly live a victorious Christian life even if your actual circumstances don’t change? Can you have daily joy? YES! Can you stay on course? I submit to you that you can! The first place to start is with your way of thinking about yourself. Your mindset. What do you SET your mind on much of the time?

Here’s an uncomplicated plan to help you rise to victory over that crushed feeling like you are drowning in responsibilities and people “stuff”.

What if…
you stop speaking badly to yourself about yourself. What if you believe the opposite of all those words in the graphic? You are loved. You are worthy of love. You are smart. You are interesting. You are beautiful.

Here’s my idea: Start by beginning each day reciting this (about the Cross):

“It was our (my) sins that did that to Him, that ripped and tore and crushed Him. Our (my) sins! He took the punishment and that made us(me) whole. Through His bruises we/I am healed.” – Isaiah 53:54 (The Message)

What if…
you sat each day and pondered that verse? What if you let it sink into the very marrow of your bones? Deep into your soul. What would that do for your mindset? Think of it. You were worth it to your Savior to die for YOU. He paid the total price. He CHOSE to do that for you! Because from before you were born, He loved you. By embracing that thought with your mind, then your soul, and finally with your emotions, you will begin your healing process. Just like the Isaiah verse says. Healing might look different for each of us, but there is definitely nothing better than SOUL-health.

What if…
you chose to embrace soul-health through this mindset shift, after days and weeks of reciting and thinking on that one verse and Jesus’ deep love for you? Do you think joy would set in to your daily life? What about your relationships? If you are not focused on what is WRONG in your life and rather focus on what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you personally to set you free, what do you think your attitude and your relationships would look like? You might need to re-evaluate some but, it will be worth it.

What if…
God is asking us for a sign? (from the same Hallmark book*)
